He’s been called one of the smartest investors on the planet and on Thursday, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman is expected to reveal new insights on the market.Speaking at an investment conference for Boys & Girls Harbor - a charity that benefits inner city children, Ackman will likely highlight stocks and sectors where he sees opportunity.
Although many big investors talk about the market, Ackman is in a somewhat different league. “Whatever stocks he talks about in events like this, they usually move,” explains trader Jon Najarian.
In advance of his speech, Najarian revealed areas of the market that he thinks could pop after Ackman's commentary is made public. “I’m watching GDX – Ackman has expressed interest in this area before,” says Najarian.“Also I’m watching rails – Ackman has tried to ride the rails,” says the money pro.And a (single) stock I find interesting is Rouse Properties – a spinout from General Growth. The reason that’s interesting is because Ackman is going on stage with one of the heads of (rival) Vornado. Because Ackman holds a stake in RSE it could get mentioned.”It's important to note the trades mentioned above are purely speculate. “I did reach out to Pershing Square and they did not respond,” Najarian says.
Ackman is expected to speak sometime after 3:30pm ET.
