The European Central Bank and the Swiss National Bank said Monday they will end Swiss franc swap operations, which had helped boost liquidity during the financial crisis, because of improvements in credit markets.
The European Central Bank said in a statement it would stop conducting swaps of one-week Swiss francs from Jan. 31, citing "declining demand and improved conditions in the funding markets." The ECB said there are no other Swiss franc swap operations in place.
The Swiss National Bank said on its Web site that it would also end swaps with the Polish central bank and the Hungarian central bank on January 25.
