Exxon Mobil Subsidiary Ship Attacked by Gunmen
The Associated Press | September 30, 2011 | 11:21 AM EDT

An official with Exxon Mobil's Nigerian subsidiary says gunmen have attacked a ship supplying one of the company's offshore oil rigs, kidnapping a sailor.

Nigel Cookey-Gam told The Associated Press that the kidnapping happened early Friday off the coast of Nigeria's Akwa Ibom state.

Another sailor suffered injuries on the supply ship, which is a contractor to Exxon Mobil .

Cookey-Gam said security agencies were notified of the kidnapping.

Kidnappings for ransom remain common in Nigeria's oil-rich Niger Delta, where foreign oil workers, construction companies and middle-class Nigerians all are targets.
